Date Rape

I was speaking at a Christian camp where everyone was told that I would not be available for counseling. They only wanted me to speak at night, and have some time off. After two nights the director said, I told everyone that you are not available, but one of my board members is here with his daughter and she needs help. I said, I think I know who she is. Every night she sits with a pout on her face and refuses to sing. I agreed to meet with her that Friday afternoon, but only on the condition that she, herself, wanted help. Parents bringing children to get fixed never works. The director told me the next night that she did, indeed, want some help.

When she entered the room she said, “I don’t want to get right with God, or anything.” I admit that I had a momentary thought, Great, my whole ministry is to help people get right with God, and besides, I could be playing golf or something! However, I didn’t pay any attention to that and said, Fine, but since you are here. Do you want to share your story? When she was a freshman in high school a senior football player asked her out, and she wanted everyone to know that the campus ‘hero’ was dating her. It was a date rape, and this Christian girl from a great family lost her virginity. She felt too ashamed to tell anyone, so there was no resolution to her internal struggle, and she became sexually promiscuous. She was in her twenties and living back home with her parents after living with a man for several months.

After hearing her story I asked her if she would like to resolve all her conflicts. Nobody had ever asked her that before, and she said she would. She completed the Steps and got right with God! That night she was singing with all her heart, and the joy on her face and that of her Father said it all. God is so good.
